Understand. Connect. Take part.
We make public data accessible, understandable and actionable through clear reporting, useful visualizations and practical guides that help people make informed decisions and get involved.
Start with the evidence
Our guides and data tools link to the records behind them. We distinguish a proposal from a decision, a budget from a payment, and a reported offense from a conviction. Source dates and coverage limits belong beside the information they qualify.
Finance methodology
The finance explorer uses a manually transcribed General Fund table from the FY2027 Budget Book, printed page 14 (PDF page 17). FY2024 and FY2025 are actuals; FY2026 is revised budget; FY2027 is adopted budget. All eight revenue and expenditure totals reconcile with their category sums in this transcription.
The General Fund is not the whole city budget. Transfers and accounting adjustments are retained. FY2025 includes a $22,844,492 one-time USACE floodwall adjustment in Other Fees and Engineering. A source dash stays missing rather than becoming an observed zero.
The financial source library contains additional tables with different accounting scopes. Unresolved source differences are flagged. Overlapping department, fund and spending-category views must not be added together.
Crime methodology
The official police crime table supplies annual Part I counts. The explorer compares 2024 and 2025, whose category sums reconcile. Seven older years have unresolved differences. These counts do not measure convictions, every incident or countywide crime.
Events and updates
The events calendar covers selected City Parks activities and Carson Center performances. Each listing identifies its source and last check. It is a partial calendar; confirm details with the organizer. Downloaded calendar files do not update automatically.
Editorial standards
Source guides explain how to read the record; they are not reports of a particular vote or event. Data tools show the periods and categories available in their cited sources. AI assistance is disclosed on the City Hall guide. AI output is not a primary source, and a numerical correlation is not proof of cause.
Corrections and source changes
When source figures conflict, we show the discrepancy rather than silently choose a preferred number. Material corrections should identify what changed, why and which source supports the revision. Original source labels remain available when a plain-language label is used.
Privacy
This site has no reader-account, email-signup or submission forms. Data Disciples, a corporate sponsor, appears in clearly labeled advertising. Sponsor links carry campaign tags so Data Disciples can identify which placement referred a visit. Those tags describe the campaign, not the visitor. Google Analytics measures site use and sponsorship impressions, clicks and dismissals only after you allow analytics. Advertising personalization stays off. Precinct selections, inferred political beliefs, names, email addresses and comment text are not sent as analytics fields. Use Privacy settings to allow, decline or withdraw consent. The sponsor frequency limit and analytics choice are saved in this browser; withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection. Optional comments entered in a chart-sharing window remain in that browser tab and are cleared when it closes. They are not sent to ProPaducah.
Facebook sharing opens an external service. A chart link is passed to Facebook; you decide whether to add a comment or publish a post there. Facebook and linked source websites operate under their own policies. The hosting provider may process ordinary connection and security logs.
